After more than a decade-long absence from filmmaking, Tony Kaye returns to the director’s chair and takes a hard look at America’s education system in Detachment. In Detachment, Adrian Brody gives a knockout performance as Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher who suppresses his ability to connect with his students. Henry is finally forced to confront his trepidation in forming close relationships and changes the lives of those around him when he is given a long assignment at a faltering inner-city high school.
